For some reason, many people behave in an extremely selfish way and oddly enough, many don't even realize the error of their ways! They think it's funny, or natural, or they are trying to defuse an awkward social situation, but unfortunately it just gets more awkward as they keep talking! Maybe it's time they used a filter! It's time to start thinking before we speak, especially when we are cracking jokes at other people's expense, it will eventually come back to haunt you!
This type of social behavior might be a habit of yours, but now it's time to take a step back and change! Yes, it isn't all about you. Maybe instead of trying to crack a joke, compliment the other person. Or if you feel an awkward moment coming, tell a funny story about yourself. We all need to laugh at ourselves once in awhile. If the moment continues to have no end in sight, offer to get the other person a glass of water, a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. This will buy you some time to think of something nice to say, and to think twice before you blurt whatever you're thinking!
Sounds simple, right? Unfortunately, it isn't that easy for everyone, but if you acknowledge your shortcomings, that's the first step towards working on your vices. Here's an easy motto to remember in social situations, "Think of others, not of yourself". This will make all the difference in the world!
