Fixing Those Imperfections

Credit: Lessons

What are the imperfections?  It's those nervous habits we all have:

  • biting your nails
  • playing with your hair (yes, even men sometimes)
  • cracking your knuckles
  • using your phone as a "safety blanket"
  • chewing on a pen
  • rubbing you face, chin or arms
  • turning your wedding ring
  • overeating
  • lack of eating
  • smoking
  • rolling of the eyes
  • crossing our legs and constantly moving the leg

What makes us have these nervous habits?  Are we always stressed when these habits tend to show themselves?  Have they become our "safety blankets" when we don't know how to handle the stress of a situation?

It's probably is a mixture of these reasons.  It's interesting how society judges anyone and everyone for such tendencies, but we all seem to have at least one habit.  Maybe some of us hide them better than others.  So it is best not only for our outward appearance but our inward personal growth to move beyond these habits, because that's exactly what they are: BAD HABITS.

How do we change something we have been doing for the past 25 years?  Well, first we must recognize the "problem", "addiction", "imperfection" before we can change it. Once we have recognized our defects, work on slowly correcting them.  Instead of saying, "I won't bite nails anymore", try to refrain from this habit for 1 week, then try for another week and then a month and pretty soon it will be a year since you bit your nails!  I know, it's not as easy as it seems, but if we don't practice and persevere we will never reach our final goals in life.  So let's start with the small things, such as correcting our "bad habits" and then move on to tackle the larger goals, such as finishing college, starting a company, working as a top journalist, being a fabulous mother.  Whatever your goals, you will only reach them step by step, not in a day as we would all like!  So, Good Luck and Keep Persevering!
